DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 9, 2016 — Christopher Weiss, a Lincoln brand service engineer who works at the Ford Technical Assistance Center in Allen Park, Mich., has won the T1D, Motorcraft & Me Raffle and will receive a VIP Motorcraft Racing Experience of a Lifetime.

The Sugar Grove, Ill. native who has been with Ford for a year and a half purchased one lucky raffle ticket to become eligible to win. All of the more than $35,000 raised by the raffle went directly to JDRF to help fund type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.

“It was definitely a shock to get that kind of a phone call,” Weiss said recalling the moment he learned he won the prize sponsored by Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing. “This is the first thing of this scale that I’ve won.”

Weiss, an automotive technology graduate of Southern Illinois University, and three friends will meet driver Ryan Blaney and serve as honorary pit crew members for the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion and the legendary Wood Brothers Racing Team during Ford Championship Weekend, Nov. 18-20, at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“This raffle presented an excellent opportunity for everyone to help JDRF raise funds to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and Chris and his friends will have a chance to experience NASCAR like few others,” said Brett Wheatley, executive director of North America, Ford Customer Service Division. “They will get exclusive access to what goes on at the race track during the most important weekend of the season – Ford Championship Weekend.”

Weiss provides diagnostics and service assistance to dealerships around the U.S. while providing supplemental assistance to other dealerships around the globe for the Lincoln brand.

“I’ve always been a fan of Ford Motor Co. and racing in general,” Weiss said. “I’m super excited to see a NASCAR race. It’s one thing to watch on TV and another thing to be there in person and soak in the whole environment.”

Helping JDRF isn’t new for the 24-year-old Weiss.

“I’ve supported JDRF in the past with volunteer work and donations while working in a previous job,” he explained. “I’ve continued that as I’ve gotten older and I’ll keep supporting them until the day I die.”

Ford Motor Company’s relationship with JDRF spans three decades. In 2008, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing joined the effort and has since raised more than $400,000 for JDRF, the world’s leading charitable funder of T1D research.
