Gallagher Falls Just Short of Texas Motor Speedway Domination

Spencer Gallagher and the No. 23 Allegiant Travel team earned a seventh-place finish Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Striping Technology 350. Gallagher posted the fastest time in qualifying earlier in the day, earning his second career pole award and second of the season with GMS Racing. After Gallagher took the initial green flag for the 147-lap event, Gallagher reported to crew chief Jeff Hensley that he was experiencing a tight-handling condition in Turn 4. Gallagher held onto the lead until the caution clock expired on lap 40. Hensley called Gallagher to pit road to receive four tires, fuel, and air pressure and track bar adjustments to help loosen the tight-handling chassis, returning to the field in the fourth position on lap 43. The Las Vegas native maintained his top-five position until he took over the lead again on lap 76 and held on to the point position until the caution clock expired once again on lap 83. Gallagher reported that he was lacking rear stability everywhere. The 26-year-old brought the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet to pit road to receive four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment, returning to the field in the second position on lap 86. Gallagher battled with Daniel Hemric on the restart and took over the lead on lap 87. Holding the first position until lap 126 when the final caution clock of the night occurred, Gallagher came to pit road to get four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment but lost several spots on pit road. As a result, the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet restarted in the seventh position on lap 129. Gallagher maintained that position for the final 18 laps to collect his eighth top 10 of the season.

“We had a really fast Allegiant Travel Chevrolet here at Texas. Grabbing my second pole award was really exciting but tonight’s end result was a tough one to swallow. We honestly had the truck to beat. We struggled on pit road throughout the night. On the last stop we just couldn’t recover to get back to the lead. These GMS Racing guys worked their tails off and we showed what we could do tonight. We will focus on Phoenix now and bring another fast Chevrolet there.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to the track on November 11 at Phoenix International Raceway.

GMS Racing competes full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with drivers Johnny Sauter, Spencer Gallagher, Grant Enfinger, Ben Kennedy, Shane Lee and Kaz Grala.
